PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Gordon Parks: My Camera is a Weapon is a Youth FX digital photography program for young people ages 14-18, offered in partnership with the Albany Institute of History and Art (AIHA). Students will be led through a series of technical and creative workshops that will highlight Gordon Parks’ philosophy that the camera was his weapon of choice to combat what he hated most about the world: intolerance, poverty, and racism.
Students will learn hands-on photography skills from Youth FX educators and local professional photographers, and build a portfolio of photos, with one photograph being selected to be printed, mounted and displayed at the AIHA as part of a student exhibition alongside the upcoming Gordon Parks exhibit, Gordon Parks: I, Too, Am America.
